On all forms of water filters

The best form is reverse osmosis.

Why not distilled? It leaves chemical toxins in, even if it has a carbon pre-filter.
Why not a 7 stage? Because not every resin (ex kdf, zinc copper, activated alumina, ceramic, etc) catches every chemical toxin.
Why not a retarded water alkalinizer? Because heavy metals are still alkaline.
Why not Brita? Because it's stupid. It's just a stupid carbon filter that takes out chlorine and nothing else. There's hundreds of contaminants in tap water.

Reverse osmosis makes sure you have 0 but water.

And don't listen to the bull about the PH of the water. Rain water is slightly acidic from the dissolved air.

Put a drop of silica in some reverse osmosis if you want the cheapest, and cleanest solution.

Furthermore, reverse osmosis filter replacements are DIRT cheap.
